Like many people, in the past few years I’ve really started thinking about the journey my food takes to get on my table. Sure, I’ve always known my produce came from Mexico or even California, but I never really thought about what that meant. How long can a piece of fruit last once picked, and is it healthy for us if we are eating this food?
This past weekend I saw an Associated Press article on Yahoo about the impact of our food distribution chain, which you can read here. I’ve been buying local when I can, but I haven’t been not buying something I need if it’s not local. It may be time to rethink that. I wonder if the FDA regulations on tracking the supply chain will really help prevent outbreaks of disease or other bad things that happen.
What do you think about these possible regulations and how will it impact how you buy your food?
